If you want to know more about the decarbonation of islands, here are a few related projects

Horizon 2020 - GIFT
2019-2023
img
Through the development of multiple innovative solutions for energy management and flexibility of networks gathered through a smart platform, GIFT will increase the penetration rate of renewable energy sources into the islands’ grid, reducing their needs for diesel generation and thus decreasing the greenhouse gases emissions directly related to it.

Horizon 2020 - REACT
2019-2023
img
REACT will deliver a scalable cloud-based ICT platform for RES and storage enabled infrastructures and combine an optimal control of community owned energy assets, both conventional and renewable, with cooperative demand response actions by leveraging on energy production and consumption modelling, grid operation fault detection and diagnostics, multi-carrier supply optimization and optimal energy dispatching, while enabling synergies between different energy networks and microgrids of islands.

Horizon 2020 - INSULAE
2019-2023
img
The INSULAE will support the decision maker on the selection and design of cost-effective Action Plans looking for the island decarbonization. It will be mainly composed by two modules: the island modelling assistant and the scenarisation module. An Investment Planning tool is developed to create Actions Plans for the islands to generate their own sustainable, low-cost energy.

Horizon 2020 - NESOI
2019-2023
img
NESOI supports projects at different stages and implements capacity building and coaching activities to ensure raising awareness and capacity of public authorities' staff for developing investible projects with the aim to empower Local Communities for energy transition. To fill the gap between the available funds for islands’ energy transition and the lack of local expertise, NESOI provides a platform where islands can access both and direct support.

Horizon 2020 - INNOPATHS and NAVIGATE
img img
Development of innovative energy-economy modelling tools to explore the impacts of lowcarbon transition in the EU Member States. MAESHA will build on the innovative modelling developments conducted in H2020 INNOPATHS and NAVIGATE projects, in particular with regard to improved energy demand representation, more granular modelling of power systems with high variable RES deployment and improved insights on sectorial integration between energy demand and supply, facilitated by (Among others) demand response, power storage and power-to-X technologies. All these advancements will be integrated in the modelling tools developed in MAESHA (WP2) that will be customized for islands.

Horizon 2020 - Flexiciency
2015-2019
img
Flexiciency is addressing flexibility and efficiency within the European energy market, putting focus on consumers and making use of data from smart metering. More specifically, the project’s mission is to create new opportunities for energy business and expand the DSO’s market facilitator role for new services. As neutral players in the market, they can support the creation of new business opportunities and innovative services for end users, based on consumer data collected by smart meters. The initiative marks an important step towards the achievements of 2020 energy consumption and CO2 emissions targets through the development of advanced energy services and the implementation of new policies and market regulations that promote the creation of smart grids, in the process boosting jobs and growth in Europe.

Horizon 2020 - MERLON
2019-2021
img
MERLON introduces an Integrated Modular Local Energy Management Framework for the Holistic Operational Optimization of Local Energy Systems in presence of high shares of volatile distributed RES. Optimization in MERLON applies to multiple levels spanning optimal coordination of local generation, with demand and storage flexibility, as well as flexibility offered by EVs and CHP Plants to facilitate maximum RES integration, avoidance of curtailment and satisfaction of balancing/ ancillary grid needs.
